What is LASIK?
LASIK, or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a type of refractive eye surgery used to correct vision problems, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During a LASIK procedure, a laser is used to reshape the cornea to improve the way that light enters the eye and is focused on the retina.
Does LASIK hurt?
LASIK is a relatively quick and painless procedure typically performed outpatient. Most patients experience improved vision immediately after the procedure and can return to work and other normal activities within a few days.
After Your LASIK Procedure
A shield is placed over your eye at the end of your procedure to protect it during healing. You may experience itching, burning, or irritation after the procedure, but over-the-counter pain medications should be sufficient to address any discomfort. You should feel better within a few days of your procedure. Some post-procedure limitations include avoiding strenuous activities like contact sports for several weeks.
